The number of missions in Ninja Trials has been tripled to a total of 100, and all four playable characters – Hayabusa, Ayane, Momiji, and Kasumi – can be used in this co-op mode. Players can use all of Hayabusa’s weapons and Ninpo in Clan Battles, giving them access to their favorite methods of attack. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razors Edge is an upgraded version of Ninja Gaiden 3, featuring additions such as gameplay tweaks, dismemberment, multiple weapons, new playable characters, and online co-op. Supporting up to eight players, five brand new Clan Battle stages have been added. Whilst looking more childlike and youthful in the first Ninja Gaiden title, she appears more mature and feminine in Ninja Gaiden II and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, along with a more voluptuous body on par with Rachel in the latter two titles.

The Ninja Skills upgrade system works online to let players use Karma to purchase 64 customizable features for the Unknown Ninja used in multiplayer Clan Battles. Ayane is a slender, athletic, petite, young woman, who has short, purple hair and striking red eyes. The online features in Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge have been greatly expanded, with all the previously paid DLC from Ninja Gaiden 3 available as a bonus. Additional features include new exclusive weapons such as the Lunar Staff, Kusarigama and Dual Katanas, improved AI, and new enemy types, new battle areas and alternative costumes. In the new Tests of Valor challenge, players who find Crystal Skulls hidden in each level will be transported to face off in skill-testing battles with familiar bosses from the NINJA GAIDEN series.
